I'm Christian, but I'll date whoever make me happy and treats me right, whether he/she'd be Mormon, Catholic, Atheist, Agnostic, whatever. Your ex does sound like an ass. I hope you do find someone better.

I don't see any problem with someone breaking up with someone else because of religious differences, and I'm agnostic. I know a lot of people who have converted for people, etc, but if you're both very set in your convictions, marrying someone of a different faith can cause a lot of problems you may not want to have in your marriage or relationship. IE, what faith to raise the kids, especially if it really matters to both of you. And a lot of faiths contraindicate marrying members of other religions. Honestly, it's a judgment call. The dumbass part of this is that he didn't know what an atheist WAS. He's clearly too dumb to take his faith seriously and understand the theological, metaphysical, etc. repercussions of dating you if he doesn't know the difference between an atheist and asyndeton (the latter is a literary device employing too few commas). You may have wasted six months of your life, but you dodged a bullet, honey. How could you not notice that you were dating a dumb ass?

If you think him breaking up with you is bad, imagine what it's gonna feel like when you get to heaven and God sighs, shrugs, and says "you had a chance, I'm sorry" and Jesus goes "why didn't you listen to me? I DIED for you!" and then they pull the trapdoor and you burn in hell for eternity. THAT is what's going to suck!!! With that fair warning said...
