I did that too. I was cooking brownies in the oven, and I had no trouble putting them in the oven. But then I take them out of the oven. It was okay, because I had a potholder on my left hand, and then to get a grip on the heavy pan, I grab it with my right (unprotected) hand. It burnt like hell, and it scalded my thumb. Hope you feel better!
My sister did something similar the other week. She was pulling a tray out of the oven and as she went to put it on the bench, its balance shifted a bit so she grabbed it with her other hand to balance it... and burned her thumb and finger. The real kicker? She did exactly the same thing, with exactly the same finger/thumb, less than a week later.
Oh, and be careful using silicone mitts. They absorb the heat after a while, so even if you take the mitt off, it can keep the heat and when you put the mitt back on a few minutes later it can be very hot. I prefer not to use silicone mitts.
You learned something that day didn't you
I've never done this because I'm smart enough to wear TWO oven mitts. However, I was taking a cake out of the oven one day, shirtless, and trying to close the oven with my foot, I put the cake too close to me and now I have a scar on my belly.
I suggest you move to New Jersey and raise the average IQ of both States.
