Today, I was planning on going on a date with a girl I've really liked. She told me today was the only we could hang out before her trip. I got an expensive hair cut, planned on cooking her dinner, and pulled a few strings and got on the list for a big concert. Turns out she'd rather go shopping FML

Today, I bought my girlfriend two tickets to a Broadway show that was coming through town she really wanted to see. I couldn't attend with her due to work so she said she would take her mom. I found out later she took her ex. Now they're back together, and I paid for the date that made it happen. FML

Today, I was going to hang out with the girl I like, because she was leaving for the rest of the Summer. She had to cancel to go shopping with her grandma "all day." At 1 o'clock, she came online and told me how much fun she had with this guy I really don't like. She forgot that she lied to me. FML

Today, the girl I've had a crush on for a year finally said she'd go out with me. On the way over to pick her up, she called me and said she couldn't go because she was going out to dinner with her ex-boyfriend to talk things over. She asked if she could use the reservations I had made. FML

Today, I had a date with a girl. Wanting to make a good impression, I spend a lot of time getting ready and by the time I get to the place we were supposed to meet she isn't there anymore. I call her to see where she is. She's in bed with another guy and says "I was REALLY waiting for you". FML

Today, a coworker invited me out for a date, totally out of the blue. I had no idea she liked me, but I did my best to impress. She ordered the most expensive steak on the menu, two bottles of wine, and eventually picked up and went home with our waiter. I got the bill. FML

I don't think OP is giving us enough info. she might have said she wanted to hang out with him, and then decided to be a twat and go shopping instead. he just wanted to impress her.

He wanted to impress her in a creepy overthetop way? As a dude "lets hang out" with a girl does not mean blowing god knows how much money. It means going to a movie or just.... I dunno.... hanging out? There is trying to impress someone... and then there is jumping through hoops and going completely overboard. The op did the latter so therefore he deserves it! Hopefully next time he will realize that "I want to hang out" does not mean "ZOMG You are my soulmate lets have the most perfect night evah!"

Big concert in Utah? No one wants to see yet another lame Osmond Brothers tribute band! And I agree with patticake1601, cooking dinner on a first date is over the top. I did that for the most beautiful girl I ever went out with and I got nothing. That would be OK, but at the party where I first met her, we made out in my car. Cooking dinner took me from getting to first base to hitting into a triple-play. Be cool and go shopping with her. You can always bring your expensive haircut with you ;) (I once went shopping with a girl at Victoria's Secret --- hot!)
