Just the tip

By Anonymous - 28/06/2009 18:43 - United States

Today, I went into work to waitress on a table of 40 guests. They were my only table for the day and the bill came to over 700 dollars. After they left the busser was cleaning the table and threw out the credit card receipt which had my tip on it. FML

Oh wow, fyl and you should complain about that busser.

Are you kidding me? They were your only table and you weren't able to get there before the busser to collect your receipt? YDI

Wow is someone just going trigger happy on the thumbs down button on all the posts?

Wow, they fail at their job. But you're the one that got screwed. I hope you can talk the management about it or something. Though, I have to ask, how the hell do you wait on an entire table of 40 guests? is that humanly possible?

Wow, that sucks. Did anything happen to the busser? And wtf is with all the buried comments?

Maybe some of us are working as servers to PAY for college so we can get a "real" job as you call it...Some of us actually have to work for our money. I'd love to see you work in a restaurant and try to live off $2-$3 an hour, which btw, servers RARELY see any of because most of the paycheck is taken for taxes anyways...

False. Bussers would never be stupid to throw a credit card receipt away. Even if he did, you deserve it for not adding autograt to the check. I guess you just learned from your massive mistake.

the receipt is prolly in the computer history. just reprint it.

That's not really the point. The point is that she lost the tip.

This makes no sense. Why wouldn't gratuity be automatically included in the bill for such a large party? I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant where that was not the policy.

That sucks and your busser is an idiot. But to everyone saying servers only make $2-3 an hour w/o tips, that's entirely dependent on the state they live in, not nationwide as everyone makes it sound. Here minimum wage is over $8.50 an hour, and servers must be payed at least that not counting any tips. Everyone I know who worked as a server in a restaurant has always made close to double (if not more when it's busy) any of our non-server friends after adding in tips. What gets me though, is I don't think restaurants should be able to add the mandatory large party tips since wages can't be subsidized, but they all still do.

Without the signed ticket, the tip may as well not exist. She may have added gratuity, but the credit card holder needs to validate the purchase by signing the bill. If you can't understand that, for the love of GOD I hope you can hold down a "real job". Working in the service industry is enjoyable for the most part, but it's infuriating to deliver excellent service to someone and then have them not tip you because they're cheap. The job is easy for the most part and yes you can tell me over and over again how worthless waiters are, but at the end of the day, you're paying for a service. Restaurants only pay out $3/hour at best and less at worst so you're working for the tips. The ignorance of people in this country is amazing. A lot of people work at restaurants to pay for college or as a temporary job in between jobs. It's not embarrassing or something to be looked down upon. It's a job and it's fine. It's better than being an unemployed neckbeard living in their mom's basement eating hot pockets while anonymously judging people in the real world. So sorry about your luck darlin'. Punch your busser for me.
