Just the tip

By Anonymous - 28/06/2009 18:43 - United States

Today, I went into work to waitress on a table of 40 guests. They were my only table for the day and the bill came to over 700 dollars. After they left the busser was cleaning the table and threw out the credit card receipt which had my tip on it. FML

Oh wow, fyl and you should complain about that busser.

Are you kidding me? They were your only table and you weren't able to get there before the busser to collect your receipt? YDI

ohh man i used to bus and if i pulled a stunt like that id get my ass kicked the second the waiter got me in the kitchen xD i would've never done it anyway, since i got a cut of the tips at the end of the night. did that person get fired for carelessness?

Why wasn't the receipt in the folder anyhow? And seriously you idiots...when you process a credit card there is a record of it in the nightly read out of the machine. This is how you can go back in to add tips on later so just pull up the read out, look for the $700 transaction and fix it. It isn't rocket science. And I agree with the people that asked how you let the busser beat you to the table. You should have picked up the check before they left.

The problem is that the customer normally writes the amount they wish to tip on the hard copy of the bill after it's been printed out. With out the hard copy there is no record of the tip.

heres what you should do: 1. piss in a bucket for 3 straight months 2. invite busboy over 4 a "killer *******" 3. drown him in bucket o' piss 4. smile

you forgot 5. ????? 6. PROFIT!

For everyone saying YDI, sometimes the bussers start cleaning tables early. And sometimes, the waiters can get caught up in something else, I know that they always had me doing something when I was a waiter.

If it was a table of 40, I bet the server was busy doing OTHER shit, not waiting to grab a slip of paper that wouldn't normally be thrown out anyway. If fact, at my restaurant we are encouraged NOT to pick up the signed check until the table is gone. You can not reprint a SIGNED CREDIT CARD SLIP since it's not valid without a signature. Not all places add gratuity. Where I work tabs regularly work into a couple hundred dollars and we still aren't allowed to add gratuity. So BACK THE **** OFF THE SERVER. This has happened to me before as well and it SUCKS BALLS.

The server admitted she wasn't doing anything else.

Umm why do we pay tips to people who are already being paid to serve me food. Does not make sense so everyone should just stop tipping or if you are then might as well tip people are the grocery store and at the gas stations

Either you're not American or you're an idiot. I realize that there are places in which restaurant servers actually get paid a decent wage and tipping isn't necessary, but (like other posters have said) in the US servers are paid about $2/hour and the only way this is legal is the assumption that they will make it up to minimum wage by earning tips. I don't see the point in blaming people who are already victims of a shitty system.

Because you should grateful that they're serving you..If it was good service.

because we only make $2-$3 an hour thats why. People at grocery stores and gas stations make at least minimum wage and don't even prepare the food for you and take care of you and treat you like a guest.

Umm, why do cheap people like you even bother eating out at restaurants? If you hate tipping so much, maybe you should just stick to getting your food from the grocery store to cook it at home. Nobody on the grocery staff depends on tips for a living, and they won't have to break their backs to make your cheap ass happy.

30 minute food times ARE NOT the server's fault, period. If that happens, the kitchen is SUPER busy making everyone else who ordered before you their food or you ordered an item off the menu that takes a long time in addition to the restaurant being busy. Their is NO reason to not tip because the food took 30 minutes because the server had nothing to do with it. Their are only so many cooks and so many places to cook in the kitchen. You ARE NOT the only customer so get over it and stop being a cheap jackass.

wouldn't it be auto-gratuity anyway? just do the math

man that blows... sorry about that. And to all the people who are saying not to tip the waiters and stuff because its there job you obviously have no clue about anything in life so please don't speak so that we can all have a little respect for the human population. The ignorance from some people regarding this is making me fear for the future of my children
