Today, I moved into a new house. The landlord insists it's OK for her to come up whenever she wants because she owns the house. We aren't allowed to lock the doors and she has two 8-year-olds. They come into the bathroom every time they hear the shower running. We have a clear shower curtain. FML

No. No it's not okay. If I'm not mistaken that's illegal for her to do.

Put a chair in front of the door. That will keep them out. It's not a lock...

You realize you have more rights than this? She can't barge into Your home. She is required to give you 24 hours written notice of entry or it's illegal.

That's very wrong for her to do that

have a lawyer look over the agreement and then if its not in there he can threaten to sue!

That's actually a lawsuit. As long as you have a legal lease of course. Invasion of privacy, breaking an entering if she goes in after you lock it.

I don't think they are allowed to do that whether they own it or not. I would have told my mom and dad.

Unless you signed a long term lease I'd suggest you gtfo of there ASAP!

Hey honey that is terrible about your landlord and it is also illegal for her to do that does not matter if she owns the flats and you have the right to lock your door especially with brat kids who have no concept of privacy while you are in the shower you should really get something done about it honey. Good luck. X

If you are the US and have signed a lease, legally she MUST give you 24 hours notice. I once had a landlord like that. He would come and go as he pleased. Until I changed the locks :)
