My new house

By Anonymous - 22/01/2013 08:27 - New Zealand - Wainuiomata

Today, I bought my first house, blowing nearly all my savings on the deposit. I had left myself enough for just a couple of necessary bits of furniture. It turns out the previous owner completely stripped the house when he left, taking the oven and even the toilet with him, amongst other things. FML

I hope you have enough money to buy a shovel, because you might have to shit in a hole for a while

Time to get on your agent's ass. When you buy a house, they write up what stays in the contract. My agents would write in appliances even though by law in the one state I purchased they were to stay. Also worth checking with someone to see if you can stick the seller with replacing these things. It almost sounds like something someone would do during a foreclosure or short sale.

That has to be a breach of contract. Talk to a lawyer. The toilet removal is highly unreasonable.

be pissed off*** Smart phones do stupid things

YDI for not looking inside the house before buying it.

Why did you not look on the inside first, or was it one of those type of auctions where you can only see the outside.

People keep saying " didn't you look at the house?" The owner probably took all the stuff after he had signed for the house.

That's why you have a walk through right before closing. You make sure everything is as expected right before you sign everything and hand over the money.

How do you take the toilet even?! It'd be such a faff stopping the water and everything! And surely their new house has one so what are they going to do with it then!? People are weird.

How do you think people install a new toilet if the old one breaks? You just turn the water off, not that difficult.

I realise that people have to go through all that for a new toilet, but to do it to take an old one just seems like too much bother to me

You're supposed to notice those kid of things BEFORE you purchase the house... I mean come on, it's common sense.

In the USA you cannot take things that are permanently attached on the sale on a residence unless it was stipulated in the contract. Contact your Realtor - That is illegal and you cans get them replaced or be compensated by the seller.

I'm surprised you had enough money left over to get anything, the average house in New Zealand is five times the median income, and it's even worse in Wellington.
