Sounds like the contract was violated
can you say "final walk through"
Didn't you discuss that when you were buying the house!?
And this is why you make sure appliances are in the contract. I've never heard of anyone taking the toilets though, that's strange. At least you know for the future if you ever decide to purchase another house to make sure EVERYTHING is in writing. FYL OP, I know buying your first house is supposed to be special, but at least look at it as a learning experience.
Check you purchase agreement. Chattels should be included with the house and if they aren't there the old owner owes you the money to replace them. In almost all standard sales agreements in NZ chattels are included in the purchase of the house. If you are confused get your solicitor to look over the agreement and advise you because if you paid for the house the Toilet is included in the purchase!
sounds like its your fault.
Did your agreement include those things op or did you just assume?

You didn't look at it first?
I hope you have enough money to buy a shovel, because you might have to shit in a hole for a while
