Panic attack

Today, I went to donate blood for the first time. When they stuck the needle in my arm, I had a panic attack and begged that they take it out. The woman helping me told me she'd take it out in a moment and left. It was then that the Red Cross stole a pint of my blood while I had a panic attack. FML

HAHAHA!! I'm a fan of any FML that says "the Red Cross stole a pint of my blood..." Good times.

i gave blood in novermber last year and i can faintly remember a clause in all that paperwork that said if at any time you change your mind about giving they will stop the procedure. it sucks that they did that to you. i hope it doesnt deter you from giving blood in the future. its for a good cause. and no. 6 you are a jerk : /

A panic attack is more serious than being silly or scared of needles and they're not always predictable or rational. Please report the worker's unprofessional attitude. Stuff like that could put people off giving blood so it only hurts their own cause in the end.

I suppose you thought you could donate blood without a needle? YDI

thats dreadful!! what if you'd had a heart attack or something!!! wow.

Ugh, there's to much BS in so many of these responses I can't even address it all. They did take your blood, as there is a clear statement saying you can back out any time. If things happened the way you stated it, she was completely out of line. You might be exaggerating though. I have donated blood, and I generally get very tense every time I do it. Sometimes I have very attentive nurses who leave me feeling like a million bucks and sometimes I have crap nurses who don't even pay attention to me and leave me with bulbous pulsating bruises on my arm afterwords that don't heal for over a month.

That's really sad and by sad, I mean pathetic. I don't like blood, needles and all that stuff but for various reasons, decided to give blood for the first time yesterday and was totally fine.

thats screwed up that they would do that, but admittedly, i know i'd have a panic attack if i donated blood, so i don't. So i wouldn't donate again, generally they seem to be pretty rude, as i've heard

You probably shouldn't have signed up if you're afraid of needles or have panic attacks, and the lady probably thought it just wasn't worth not getting the blood, but what many of these commenters don't seem to understand is that all of that is irrelevent because of that clause. You need to report this.

i pass out from needles whenever i get one :P

Omg that sounds awful! I bet your never going to go back, that puts me off!
