Today, I realized that a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering does not offer enough knowledge and experience to accomplish some simple, everyday tasks. I have spent the last 12 years designing large robots to scour the seabed for shipwrecks yet the mechanism used to unhook a bra eludes me. FML

Don't worry about it. It varies on the type of bra, hell even the size of the breasts inside. I've got a bra that hasn't even got a catch. A tip: give a back massage before or during the unhooking process. This way the girl is happy, and you get to scout the area first. If you're lucky, she might even hold still while you undo it.

I must say, as a woman, I like that idea. Although, Sometimes you're not going to want a backrub, you're just going to want to rip off clothes, that's when you guys really need to perform. :P

It definitely does vary based on breast size and model of bra. My wife usually wears this really easy kind that has a groove where your thumb should go for the 'snapping' motion, making it very easy to both figure out and to do quickly. It also helps that she has small boobs, so only two hooks. :-) Bigger boobs have four or six hooks (I assume that even larger ones get more but I've only seen up to six) and if anyone can do that one-handed in one smooth motion my hat is off to them...use one hand to hold the side to the left of the hooks, then use the other hand to push the two sides of the hooks together until the hooks are in the middle of a wrinkle protruding away from her back, then pull the hooks on the right side normal* to the hooks on the left. Geez, I sound way too experienced. * - If you think this is a misuse of the word "normal," the OP knows what I mean :-)

hehe. here is a good tip. Index and thumb, pintch the center of the bra, making sure you get the hooks. hold index finger still and slide thumb upward in almost a snapping motion. Once you get goo at it you can actually snap.
