Props to #31 Obviously, OP has a controlling dad. I'm going to say possible consequences if she didn't accept the ring could range from being grounded to not being allowed to see her boyfriend. Parents like this have leverage that makes any "promises" like this one meaningless, since the kid really has no choice. However, she did screw up by doing it in her house, later that day, when it's easy to get caught. Honestly OP, your dad asked you to wait until marriage... couldn't you have at least waited until he was out of the house?

Do you people honestly expect her to say to her father that she can't promise to wait until marraige, I would have accepted the ring also because fathers are crazy when it comes to their daughters and sex. No girl is dumb enough to tell her father she's already screwin around. The timing and location could have been chosen better but the promise ring situation seems unavoidable.

Are you guys ******* stupid? This girl probably had no other choice but to fake that promise. What was she supposed to do? Imagine what could happen if she told her dad that she wasn't going to wait. For all we know he's ******* insane and would beat up her boyfriend or never let her out of the house again, for something as normal as having sex before marriage. You'd lie like that for your own well being too, and you know it.

Oh those crazy religious folk..that sucks OP. Did your dad come out with a shotgun? /kidding #36 has it right, if her dad is crazy enough to give her a purity ring for her birthday and make her promise to wait until marriage he probably would never take the whole "I'm having sex" thing okay, even if she was well into her 20s. People like that are total prudes and pretty crazy to boot.
