Guys, OP was given instructions from a trainer. It's not like they made it up and thought it would be a cool way to train the puppy, they got professional advice.
Just because it's professional advice doesn't mean it's the right advice though. What OP is most likely to accomplish is a dog who is terrified of loud noises. That will be a serious problem for the dog later, especially if OP lives in an urban area where you get car horns, etc. You're always better off teaching a dog right from wrong with a tap on the nose when they misbehave and praise, treats or a rub when they behave. Terror? No.
Not really, the owner doesn't know much about dogs so they hired someone who does. Not their fault if the advice given to them was crap
I fully sympathize OP but punishment doesn't work on puppies, our dog is now terrified of loud noises because she must have been trained like that when she was a pup. Its all about positive reinforcement, so reward the good things and ignore the bad. Just move the pup to the toilet area when you see it about to go and when they've used the toilet in the right place give it a little treat. If you walk in after it's done its business its too late to do anything about it. As other's have already said I'd sack your trainer. Good luck
That's not how u ******* train a dog dumbass if u just do nothing when it ***** on your floor the dog will continue doing so if thats how you think u should potty train a dog how about I come into your house and take a shit on your floor and see how you feel about your gay ass positive reinforcement shit you ass licking dipshit
49 - You really are an idiot, aren't you? He said it's too late to punish the dog if you find it after it's already done. You have to punish it the moment it does it to teach it that peeing/crapping in the house is wrong. If it's already been done for a few minutes and then you find it, the dog won't know what you're punishing it for. Chill out, drop the swear words and go work on your reading comprehension.
Why why will it only let me give you one thumbs up
Op a simple NO and a tap on the nose would suffice. You don't need to scare your animal into submission.
I have 3 dogs, we never used a trainer to help us train them, just taking them outside after they peed inside was enough for them to understand do not go inside. Oh and your trainer is a ******* moron.
Shitty :(
You do realize that by shaking a can of pennies at a dog when they pee all they think is that when they pee a loud and terrifying sound happens. They don't associate where they are peeing with the noise, just the peeing. I think someone should follow you around and jump out with a machete and run at you flailing it every time you pee. And your 'trainer' should never be allowed near animals again. Training with terror is a horrible trick, and for those who say the OP was just following instructions, read it again. They know that pennies in a can scares dogs and rather than thinking "Hmm, maybe I shouldn't try to scare the shit out of my dog when it does something it doesn't know is wrong" they just decided to mistreat the poor animal regardless. OP, people like you should not be allowed near insects, let alone animals or even children.

It seems you've literately scared the shit out of your dog
Isn't that what Lois does to Brian?
