Puppy training

Today, I walked in on my new puppy peeing on the carpet. The trainer had told me to punish her when she's bad by shaking a metal can of pennies at her, since the noise scares dogs. I shook it at her, and she responded by having explosive diarrhea all over the carpet in fright. FML

Your meant to put it's nose in the wee and say bad and it will eventually get it And it's kinda obvious you shouldn't make loud noises around puppies they get scared easy an are prone to weeing or pooping when that happens :/

Actually putting their nose in it is also not the way to go. They won't go in the same spot but they will find somewhere else in the house to go.

well yeeeaaah.... Or you could just take the puppy outside as you are supposed to -so it doesn't have to wee on the floor. If a puppy wees inside -it's the owners fault. A puppy needs to go outside OFTEN!

I'm really, really, really, really hoping you're getting a new trainer! I would be double-checking that they have credentials, that is no way to train a puppy!

You need to expect to have to potty train puppies. When they pee, hold them near the pee, saying "No." in a firm voice, so they know what they did was wrong. It always works. Putting pennies in a can is a horrible idea.

your trainer is an idiot, its not necessary to scare the poor thing to make him obey you, just an firm "NO" when he does this king of thing is enough for him to understand.

Until dogs are house broken, you need to keep it in a dog crate if you leave the house to prevent accidents. When at home, I also kept my puppy on a leash, attached to my waist to keep him near. It is easy to monitor if he needed to pee vs him running off and pooping behind the couch. Need to restrict the puppys run of the house

Don't come to the south if you think shaking a can of pennies is cruel, round here if the dog is dumb enough to get close to a moving car it deserves to get hit. Not saying I agree with it, it just the norm. And spanking a dog is fine it helps to teach them. Now don't go over board and beat them with chains or smash the penny can against their skull, that's cruel
