Today, it's my long-anticipated 21st birthday! Today also happens to be the first day of my period. I've spent the whole morning in the fetal position with agonizing cramps, reduced to tears, and whimpering while the painkiller refuses to kick in. Happy birthday! Love, my uterus. FML

Oh goodness, I've had my period (with crippling cramps and nausea) on my birthday pretty much every year since I got my period. It's hell. I know how you feel...it does suck. Oh and #3...I think she means the first day of THIS particular period.

Aww, FYL for sure. I thank god that I don't get painful cramps. I remembered seeing my friend one day crying from extreme cramps and she had to go home.

I've had horrible near crippling cramps too. Go to a doctor and get a prescription for some birth control pills. They work like a charm. I've found they greatly reduce the cramps and bleeding.

oh same here, i wasn't 21 but i sure was on vacation! my first day of vacay too :) gosh we girls are so damn lucky..

Sorry this really sucks!! I usually don't get cramps that bad but recently I have a few times and probably not even as bad as yours, and it was HORRIBLE!! And I'm really sorry about all the people on here saying suck it up when, OBVIOUSLY, they are wayyy too bad to just forget about, take midol, or drink it away! And that it's on your birthday and you were expecting to have a good time, that sucks even more because you can't just let it go!! Feel better and hope your b-day gets better!

uhdur if you have cramps that's why you go on the pill, because advil or whatever doesn't work on cramps that bad but the hormones in the pill do. you're 21 and you haven't figured that out yet? you wouldn't ask your ob/gyn, "oh hey, by the way, is it normal to have crippling cramps on the first day of my period?" not to bash you or anything, but really, talk to your ob/gyn, cramps should NOT get in the way of your life.
