Spooooooooky

Today, after months of believing my house is haunted, and years of being scared of the dark, I finally had to admit to myself that the only way I can go to the bathroom in the middle of the night is if my cat follows me and sits outside the door. I'm 23. FML

We all have our way of dealing with things. Don't be ashamed!

we'll sit with you, but once slenderman starts killing you, we're out of there. meow.

This may be sexist, but I was surprised to see that OP's a man! Time to move out of your parent's 'haunted' house into a nice tiny apartment of your very own. Or get a big boy potty or chamber pot to save poor kitty-poo the nightly stress of your pee pee endeavors.

12- everyone has fears. OP says it's a FML, looking at the comments a lot of people have the same fear. Now get off your high horse

Greendaycheese 12

Yeah.. cause guys don't fear anything, right? Aish.

Umm, where does it say OP lives in his parents' house and not his own??

What? I never said anyone wasn't allowed to have fears-especially not men. I stated it at the beginning of my comment. I was just surprised at the image of a man depending so much on his cat to function. The term "cat man" isn't really as common as "cat lady", is it? Also, **** , y'all are serious. OP realized his fear is irrational, and that's why it's on FML. And by the way, I ride a Shetland ******* pony, so I never have far to fall.

105- Please review my comment. I didn't make any grandiose original statements about men not having cats nor questioning men's susceptibility to phobias. Tell me, when was the last time you heard someone referred to as a "cat man"? Did I invent this so-called double standard? I'd never credit myself for any of society's standards because frankly, they're shameful, and I never meant to propagate them. If surprise is my crime, so be it. Now, all of you can go bury your faces in whatever furry beast quells your aching fears and please, chill the **** out. This isn't a therapy forum.

Oh, and 115- I'm glad I gave you a laugh! Be sure to credit me as that **** everyone thumbed down on FML. At least someone has a sense of humor! I love doggies and kitties and men and women and even restless dead folks. I think I'm just a horribly misunderstood person, at least online. I'm not trying to make anyone cry or crap their pants in anger.

I find this to be completely understandable. I won't **** with any kind of paranormal activity shit. Only in this situation my cat wouldn't just sit outside. He'd be in the bathroom with me. Weird? I don't care.

Yeah man same here. Not letting my kitty out there with whatever. I've always been really freaked out by walking through a dark house at night. I gotta turn on every light when walking through the house. I know it's totally irrational, but just can't help it. And I'm 21, so it's not completely a kid thing. And I suppose running a creepypasta blog doesn't help.

50 I turn every light on as I go as well. You just don't ever know what's there in the dark, lurking.

You have had the best comment so far. I understands OP's pain. I am terrified of ghosts and it doesn't help that my grandma has confirmed that she can see them. I just make my dog follow me for a treat and walk very fast throughout the house.

Turning on all the lights could scare off burglars and it keeps you safe from running into stuff. So turning on all the lights isn't always a sign of weakness.

I'm the same way. I will take my cat and set her on the counter. Then I let her out first and follow her back to my room. I get freaked out.... :(

Don't feel bad op. I used to be the same way at my parents house, except I had my dog. Their house still freaks me out now. My dog even refused to go into the upstairs bathroom. I'm fine now at my own house.

Awe that's cute tho. I'm in love with my cat. Except it's the opposite. I can't go to the bathroom without her wanting to sit on my lap lol

My cat is the same way..silly cats.

I know this is a tough economy, but if you're feeling that uncomfortable in your own home, you should consider moving somewhere else or cleanse your home to feel more at peace, I don't know if you're into that but a lot of people do it. Also you should get a night light, and maybe plug in some of those lights people have around their homes in case of natural disasters. Anyways, your well being is the most important thing so try to do something that will help you !

Watch some Supernatural. That's how I learned to protect myself from ghosts and demons and all the other scary stuff out there.

Devils traps. Anti possession tats. Holy water.

Supernatural has a habit of making you terrified of things you've never even heard about. Also, just make a salt and holy water solution and use it to fill up a hula hoop. Hula your way past danger and look cool while you do it.

My family has found Ghost Hunters (SyFy channel) more useful than Supernatural. The show was started by two plumbers, so they focus first on structural and electrical factors that can seem paranormal but aren't. For the stuff they can't rule out that way, they give sensible advice on how to own your space. And definately nightlights; they're basic safety precautions, not just for fear of the dark or paranormal.

Cats are moderately effective against werewolves and sprites, but completely useless against zombies, vampires, ghosts (including poltergeists), demons, leprechauns, Dementors, fairies (including tooth) and Santa Claus. Those are just basic scientific facts. Sleep tight, heh-heh-heh.

I dog I would understand. But a cat?....

kikimonole 13

Cats are pretty loyal. Sure they'd rather eat your dead body than starve to death. But they have their own way of caring. And their easier than dogs because they're more independent and don't require walks or potty training.

Mademoiselle_fml 34

Not even! As long as you have them in a room with an accessible litterbox, they'll go and do their business themselves. You just have to make sure they know it's there, that's all.

Totally understandable to me. I don't care if I get thumbed down for this but there are places I won't go near after experiencing things I can't explain (certain houses, canyons, parts of town, etc). I believe in good and bad spirits. So I can see how taking your cat with you makes you feel safe.

thiscrazything 1

Yeah, but it kind of sucks if it's your own house, you can't avoid it. My cat comes with me at night, too. But comes into the bathroom with me.

When I lived with my parents, I experienced two different activities in separate houses. It scared me outta my wits and I wouldn't leave my room for nothing. So I can understand how not being able to leave makes it a bigger FML. After OP moves out, he should still visit his parents, I just wouldn't stay the night if I were him.

I think fear of the dark never really go. I have to switch on each light of each room when I walk in the house the night. Cause that is at this moment that I remember all the horrors movies I saw in my life. Better than a cat ? Call Chuck Norris !

My dog follows me when it wakes up too . Atleast it cares I guess..
