I'm sorry, but who does that...
Obviously the person that wrote this FML lol
Gee...who would've thought paint stains everything??
That honestly wouldn't have been my first move OP but being woken up to trespassers could have set you off and with the disorientation of just waking up I can see how it might not have dawned on you, all in all that sucks
They're lucky he used a paintball gun. Most places he could have legally shot them dead. 500 bucks to enjoy teaching those dumbasses a life lesson...fair price.
Actually, most places castle doctrine only applies inside the domicile.
I'm not sure about Illinois, but you're lucky you didn't do that in Alabama, OP. Shooting an unarmed person in the back with a paintball gun, and firing on people who are not wearing masks, can get you assault with deadly weapon charges. Though it'll usually just get aggravated assault charges.
Airosoft is a better option.

Next time have better aim. One hit on bare skin is more than enough to make them leave, and you get to hear them scream like little girls. :)
Strange that it caused so much damage, paintballs are made out of biodegrade-able materials and should be easily handled by a pools filtration system. Shooting paintballs at someone not wearing a mask isn't cool, even if you aren't aiming for the head. While that may not have been the best idea, it was far more reasonable than using lethal force under the castle doctrine. It would apply if your yard is fenced in and must be accessed through a gate.
I worded the last part wrong. I meant to say that the castle doctrine would have applied to his situation, even though he chose not to use it.
haha its probably worth the price, but next time stick with airsoft

Good job! I think they deserved it and the $500 you have to pay was worth every cent ;)
They'll never mess with you again, that's worth more I reckon.
