Today, a guy in a fancy car tailed me for twenty minutes, just so he could take a picture of my license plate and tell me there's a $300 fine for flicking cigarette ashes out your window. FML

You should have used that time to get his license plate to report him for tailgating

Should have slammed on the brakes and busted that fancy car.

lol @ all the idiots here. For one thing, most cars don't come with ashtrays anymore, so there's no place to put the cigarette out. Also, pretty sure the filters degrade pretty fast, so really it wont hurt anything by flicking it out the window. And everyone who complains about second hand smoke: I'm pretty sure the exhaust from the car is 100x worse than the smoke from the cigarette. If you are close enough to inhale smoke from someone who is smoking in their car, you are close enough to inhale the exhaust too. And second-hand smoke is actually not as bad since the smoker's lungs would have filtered it slightly when they inhaled it. Not like it matters though, since you only inhale a tiny amount of smoke (unless you have your mouth right next to theirs for some reason). There's tons of carcinogens floating around in the air anyways, so the second-hand smoke isn't going to do much additional damage. Quit your bitching. I do my part to not smoke near people who don't like it. Just stay where you are and the world can be a nice, happy place without people bitching over shit that doesn't even matter.

Well when you stand outside in public places where people walk by like outside stores or restaurants there is really no way to avoid the ******* smoke and crap that is killing you and the people around you.

Right, because cigarettes are the only thing killing you. Not the rest of the carcinogens in the air, or any other number of things that could kill you (infections, venoms and car crashes come to mind). Besides, everyone knows the leading cause of death is being born. Birth has a 100% fatality rate, 99% within 100 years.

Yeah well thanks for adding to it jackass. Self involved smoker logic at its finest. Maybe someone should just hit you with their car then cos hey, you were already slowly dying from the environment anyway, what's it matter if someone added to the problem? Stop breathing.

ok a get it don't throw your butts out the window because those things stay for quite a bit, but saying the ash is polluting, really? that's no different than having a fire. would you consider having a fire littering too?

You should of break checked him and his fancy car.

Unless he took a picture of u flicking the ashes or the cig he can't do shit unless he has proof otherwise it's heresy wouldn't hold up an any court if he tried

Yes 120, the church holds a strong stance against hearsay.

That was extremely dangerous. Once someone gets that mad they aren't to far from violence. Sounds like you were lucky. It kinda ticks me off too when I see people smoking and littering. Mostly cause I have lost so many family members to cancer. Just because you smoke doesn't mean it's okay to just flip it out the window. Hope you learned from this. There are lots of crazy people out there and you never know when there going go psycho on you.

Tell him its a 150 dollar fine for using your cell phone while driving.

Lol at everybody bla'ing on about you smoking! If you smoke, you smoke! Flicking a butt out would be a different matter, however if I'm not mistaken a little bit of ash out of your window isn't going to do allllll that much damage! People need to look at the bigger picture here, the op had a guy following them, trying to get hold on their licence plate?? Seriously!! People need to reevaluate life slightly!!!! If it was a young girl late at night alone, and a older man was following her does she deserve to be scared cos she was smoking a cigarette??

The bigger picture? OK! An estimated 12 million smokers in the world, assuming the average is 1 pack a day, 1.2 grams per cigarette, assume a 50% ends up as ash, with the remainder being weight loss due to heat and the remaining butt, 20 cigarettes a pack, 12 grams of ash per day per person...so 144,000 kilograms of ash produced per day from smoking. Assume only half of this is in public as there are many people who are only social smokers, thats 72,000 kilograms of ash that gets littered worldwide daily. 26,280,000 kilograms of ash produced over 1 year. Now, what were you saying about it not being an issue? The bigger picture? Oh...right. A bit of ash isn't that bad...or something.

Ashes are biodegradable; so, luckily for us, the world won't be smothered in ashes. Actually, it's not illegal to flick ash from a cigarette because it's littering, but because it's a burning material that can cause forest fires. Flicking the butts of the cigarette is littering.

You can get the money for the ticket by not buying the freaking cigarettes they are so expensive and if you saved all that money YOU might be able to get a nice car. You pollute the earth, waste money and kill yourself slowly by doing this.

Know what else is expensive, pollutes the Earth and kill people? Cars.

And fancy cars don't have ashtrays. At least not any cars built in the last decade.

153, Very true! These are totally in the same ballpark too. One serves no purpose what so ever, the other is used daily as a means of transportation which, without it, the economy and society as we know it would come to a complete halt. Exactly the same.
