Today, after having a few beers at a bar, I gave my ticket to the valet to get my car. I tipped the man $2 and he gave me a huge smile and thanked me a lot as I left. I thought the guy was just really appreciative for those $2 until I got home and saw one of the $100 bills in my wallet was gone. FML

So you people all say he was drunk after a few beers, and that he's cheap for trying to give a two dollar tip to a valet whose job is just to drive a car up to him a few yards. Seriously, he's a nice guy who made a somewhat careless mistake. Shut up.

That's why you don't drink, you get ****** up in the head

That's why you do drink, you get ****** up in the head. Not that you should be driving. That guy totally deserved it for being a cheapskate and and drunk driver. And seriously, if you're at a bar with valets, you're probably paying a lot for things and therefore should also tip generously.

watch the valet post this to mylifeisgreat

I'll chime in as a valet. Drive a car up to him a few yards? Most of the locations I work have a two city block long run to the lot. Yes, I said RUN. Because when you're not watching, we're ******* running. Running back from parking your shitty car, and running to your shitty car to get it. And we're doing it fast because we work for tips, and time is money. I make $2/hour, and I have to make the rest in tips. And yes, $2 is a cheap ******* tip.

stealing is still stealing, even if OP is a jerk. doesn't your country have minimum wages though? plus, I recommend small scooter or something to speed yourself up. I haven't worked as a valet (I didn't realise there are such jobs), but it seems like it would make you faster with less work.

You're a jerk, you know that? How do you know that the person waiting/valeting/cashiering isn't in school to be a doctor or something? And how would you like to live in a world with no service people (although a valet isn't the most necessary thing in the world, really). People in the service industry are the ones who are doing the real work. Management really has no clue. I hope the next person who waits on you spits in your food. You know how stressful a job like that can be?

Saying all there is to being a valet is being able to park a car is a bit like saying all there is to being a waiter/waitress is being able to carry a tray. 85% of the job is customer service. Service industry jobs are, in a sense, one of the purest types of work in the sense that you get an immediate return on your work. You do a good job, you get tipped well. You do a bad job, you don't get tipped well. Also, I find it a bit odd that you're the one telling me to get a real job, when everything you say makes it sound like you've never worked a part time job in your life. Every time I hear someone whine about "rich kids" getting the "easy life," I roll my eyes, but really, what did you do for money through school?

$2 an hour?? ...Isn't that illegal?

Companies can get away with that if the employee gets the tips they make

Medfly: "stealing is still stealing" where was there stealing? Did I miss that? The op took out two bills which he THOUGHT were $1s, but they were actually a 1 and a 100. Not stealing, but a mistake.

youd take the scooter to one side, then have to drive a car and would be running anyways

YDI. If you had enough beers not to notice you gave him a hundred you shouldn't be driving.

YDI for thinking about Clay Aiken while you were tipping the guy.

Dumbass. Being drunk doesn't mean you don't have to watch out for yourself.

Well at least the valet was appreciative.

How do you guys know he was even the one driving. All he said was that the valet brought his car for all you know he had a friend drive his car. And what's wrong with a $2 tip? I've worked way shittier jobs with less pay and no tips, it's not that guys job to pay the vallets bills.

Nothing wrong with a $2 tip. But the $100 tip he gave was more than he'd intended. You went to public school, didn't you?
