Today, after months of being pestered to do so, I finally read the first Harry Potter book. I hated it. Upon hearing this, my girlfriend posted the fact on Facebook, where I immediately received tons of abuse and eventual shunning by my friends, family, and coworkers. My girlfriend just laughed. FML

Today, my boyfriend finally convinced me to watch Harry Potter for the first time. I was bored out of my mind the entire time, and by about an hour in, all I could think about was how badly I wanted to punch Hermione for being a rude little know it all. FML

Today, my daughter turned 11. Since she LOVES Harry Potter, I decided to write her an acceptance letter to Hogwarts. When she saw the letter, she screamed and showed me. When she found out I wrote it, she told me she hated me, started crying, and stepped on my foot. FML

Today, It's been a few months since I started reading the Harry Potter books to my daughter. She told me a list of all her favorite characters. I didn't have the heart to tell her that every single one of them dies by the end of the seventh book. FML

I would say that the first two books are really sort of like stand alone adventures and, in my opinion, the most "meh" of the series by far. It's not until book 3, "Prisoner of Azkaban" that things really start to get interesting and the universe and lore start to form into its own entity.

shunning? Haha don't be so dramatic, I'm sure they just see you as a hipster now and most of that abuse was pure humor/banter. Nobody is going to seriously shun you for not liking a franchise. (If it makes you feel any better you're not alone)

i didnt think anything much of harry potter until the 4th book. i dont think it deserves the hype it did but i enjoyed reading them. i havnt however read them again which is a bit of a bad sign in a book.
