Today, as a support worker, I spent 45 minutes making various attempts to calm a violent autistic kid. Just as soon as I was sure the crisis was over, he beat me as hard as he could with the "Things I Can Do When I'm Mad" book I'd given him. FML

How unfortunate. That, and a tad bit ironic. Perhaps he gave the book a good use after all.

Shoulda given him the book "how to make sweet passionate love to a woman".

At least he didn't throw the book at you. |the kid|

Yeah, some autistic kids can be kinda of...unpredictable at times. ^_^ at least you tried to calm him instead of putting him in time out or something.. FYL

I feel your pain, OP. I've been in your shoes. I too, have worked as a support worker for the mentally handicapped. One was even schizophrenic and bi-polar. They're soo strong. And nothing is more rewarding than their affection. But, man can they try a person...lol

Add one more "thing you can do when you are mad" to the list in that book. On a more serious note. I have worked in schools with autistic and emotionally handicapped kids. They are hard to deal with. One minute everything is ok, then the next minute it is not. And for no apparent reason.

For some weird reason I read this thinking you worked in a McDonalds...
