Today, as I was doing the morning count for the registers, a lady walked by and saw me. She's got Alzheimer's, and thought I was robbing the guy I'd bought the store from, so she called the cops. I spent six hours in jail while they looked into it, and didn't even get an apology. FML

Wow, I hope she doesn't do it again tomorrow! And the next day, and the next day...

They do need to apologise for wrongful arrest, though, #4.

#11, the lady could have been walking outside on the street and looked through the window, she didn't have to be in the store

I agree with 11. Besides, you could've just said you worked at the freaking place.

Why didn't you just show the cops proof of ownership/id or get employees to vouch for you.

#11, and everyone who agrees with #11, read the following line "a lady walked by and saw me". If you look closely it says that a lady walked by, not a lady walked into the store. So what happened was that the OP was inside the store counting the $$ while the doors were most likely locked, and the woman walked by/past the store, was looking in while she was walking by and saw an unfamilliare face who wasnt supposed to be there in her idea..

#11, OP says "Today, as I was doing the morning count for the registers, a lady walked by and saw me." implying that the lady was walking by the store, and saw them through the window. You don't have to be in the store to see things inside, and the registers are usually at the front, where they can be easily seen from the street through the windows.

First off, this isn't believable -- if the CSDH was "put in jail for 6 hours," the manager in charge would have stopped that from happening because the front end cannot operate without the CSDH. Second, I work in a grocery store -- waiting until there is no customers makes zero sense. You can't do that. Register sweeps are done throughout the day and money is counted on a regular basis, regardless of the number of customers in the store. Second, everything is double-checked by a manager in a secure, password-protected room behind the customer service desk afterwards. But it is still done at each individual register, too. Third, when the CSDH is counting money like that, there is supposed to be a second employee standing with them to make sure nothing is stolen and what not.
