Today, as I was doing the morning count for the registers, a lady walked by and saw me. She's got Alzheimer's, and thought I was robbing the guy I'd bought the store from, so she called the cops. I spent six hours in jail while they looked into it, and didn't even get an apology. FML

Wow, I hope she doesn't do it again tomorrow! And the next day, and the next day...

They do need to apologise for wrongful arrest, though, #4.

Hope you got overtime while you were in the locker.

why would he pay himself overtime?

That stinks, mate. Still, at least it was fully determined to be a mistake; otherwise it would be even worse.

Maybe I have seen too many movies, but I can imagine the police barging in, shouting their testosteronic phrases and just taking him into the car and to the station. If you were a cop and someone called that there's a man stealing money from the registers of a shop, the first thing you do the minute you get there is not asking "are you perhaps the owner of this store and doing a morning count?" Secondly, I see a lot of comments blaming the OP for doing something wrong. A lot of one-man non-brand stores that I have visited don't even have a back room and there's just no other way to count the money. This FML is an unfortunate set of circumstantial events, topped with superb neglect by the authorities. A 'sorry' would have been nice.

Old people are meant to be in homes. Wtf was she doing walking around in public?

it's sad the cops believed her over you and didn't give you a chance to explain before they took you away.

If the cops had been paying attention, this never would have happened, and there'd be no FML story. While thankfully uncommon, I have no problem believing that cops would just storm in, see a guy with money, and assume he's guilty. The US legal system has become arrest everybody, let the judge sort it out later. I'd sue the police department.

11 is right. plus you should have a way to show that you work there....your fault.
