Your boss is a creeper but so are you for pulling such a stunt. It was a bad idea because you were burning two bridges that you might need to cross later in life.
No, I believe the op. did the right thing in showing loyalty to their current employer, and giving the the opportunity to come to the table, the employer is clearly in the wrong
OP didn't pull any kind of stunt. He simply asked for a raise because another place was willing to pay him more. OP just thought his boss would either give him the raise or refuse and tell him to take the other job. I seen this before and there's nothing wrong with it.
It's standard practice in the trucking industry. Companies are always trying to steal drivers, so if one is considering an offer it is customary to go to their boss (if they wouldn't mind staying) and ask for a raise/better route/change of equipment as part of a bargain to turn down the higher paying offer. As an employer I often offer those kinds of perks along with signing bonuses and paid vacations in order to acquire the best employees.
You can sue him for that. Also, you should tell the other place that you are willing to take a drug test and tell them it was a lie and the real reason you were fired.
There's nothing wrong with asking for a raise, or telling your boss that you're considering working for someone else. It is wrong, however, to be a spiteful liar.
What I gleaned from this is that all bosses are assholes who deserve to be strung up by their toenails and beaten repeatedly with a sack of porcupines.
I say that's unfair and abusive to porcupines
Unfair to sacks too
Go to the nearest clinic and let them take a blood sample and check for drugs. Bill your old Boss and sue him. Also send in the results from the blood test with an explanation to the other shops manager.
Am I the only one that thinks op's boss is one hell of an evil genius?
You just made some money!
Omg. I would sue him for that. Make his ass pay for pain and suffering. Also lying about you failing a drug test.
Right this is actually illegal. My advise is to first call up the place you were offered to work at and let them know it was a lie and to say you're willing to do a drug test with them and to also ask your old workplace for the evidence that you failed a drug test. They won't have the evidence so the new workplace may start to believe it was a lie. Also since you were fired illegally tell your old boss to admit to them it was a lie or you'll send them to court for unfair dismissal and lieing to your potential new workplace. I'm not a huge fan of sewing but if whatever happened screws up your life and the ones responsible are unwilling to do anything about it then I'm a fan of sewing.
What's wrong with sewing?
Fair enough; I got those muddled up but you've got to agree with what I'm saying.
An advisor advises someone to give good advice. Learn to use the right words before you post them. Other than the word mix-ups, I agree with you.

Your boss is an asshole! There has to be someone you can contact because he is out of line.
