Today, I asked my boss for a raise, explaining that another shop offered me a job at a higher rate, but I would stay if he would offer me the same. Instead, he fired me then called the other shop and said I was fired for failing a drug test. FML

Your boss is an asshole! There has to be someone you can contact because he is out of line.

It's illegal for your boss to say why you were fired. He can say that you're not eligible for rehire, but he can't say why. You can get him into a lot of trouble for that.

If this is a true story, then your boss broke several federal employment laws and most likely a couple state ones. File unemployment and go see a lawyer.

It was seriously the wrong thing to do to threaten to leave like that of you don't get a raise, give a 2 week notice like a normal person would. He is terrible person and you didn't deserve for him to go half as far as he did but it's a lesson to learn not to give your boss an ultimatum like that. Performance is the only reason for a raise

OP never said anything about not giving a two week notice. It is totally normal and acceptable for someone to tell their boss that another job has offered more, and they can either let their employee go to said job, OR if they find their employee valuable enough, they can match new salary to keep employee at their own business. It happens ALL the time, but usually the employer isn't unprofessional about it to defemate their own employee.

Call the new job you were going to work at and ask them to drug test you. When it comes back positive, they can have your old boss fired.

Wow...just wow is all I can say...wow...hope you can find a job soon...a good one at that...

First off what your boss did was totally f*cked up and you can sue him for that second you shouldn't have told him where you were planning to go instead that right there could have been avoided because some bosses are like that and they will do it because they think they are superior like that. Sadly that is what the world is made up of.

Wrongful firing and sabayon g your work. Sue this ass.

That is HIGHLY illegal. Also, saying you failed a drug test when you never took one or anything is slander. Sue the piss out of him in both the company and personally. If you don't sue him, he will just continue to do this to other people without regard as to their life and the outcome it could have
