One in five men and one in four women have genital herpes but most of them do not know it because herpes, though very common, often presents no symptoms or has very mild symptoms that go unrecognized. Doctors do not like to diagnose herpes. They know it's a minor condition but life changing and heavily stigmatized and they don't want to make the quality of a patient's life worse through a diagnosis. When you get a "full STD screening" AKA "a full panel of STD tests," those tests almost never include herpes so a lot of people think they do not have it when they do. And doctors will give you almost any diagnosis besides "herpes." It is the official policy of most STD clinics and places like Planned Parenthood to avoid a herpes diagnosis whenever possible. If I had feared I had herpes, and a doctor told me that I had acne on my genitals, I would insist on a herpes swab test on the "pimples" and a herpes blood test (the kind that shows what type of herpes it is, if it is) before I was so sure I did not have that. Also, since the blood test is only accurate 3 months after exposure, I would repeat it in 3 months. When doctors tell you that you have "an ingrown hair" or "pimples" or "a sweat rash," often it turns out they just did not want to give you any potential bad news. They let you find it out later, after you have infected someone and he or she wants to sue you (or worse!). My advice: Check it out. 2 blood tests, 3 months apart.
umh... I'm sorry why is this upsetting? you make no sense
Today, I discovered that I don't actually have herpes, just acne. FML.
owch man.. tht sounds terrible. but.. uhh acne is temporary.. herpes is ferever :] maybe you should think moar on the bright side?
This is a FML because the testing for STD are painful and sick... You get a Q-Tip Stuck down your penis hole...
