You must have forgotten the thousands and thousands of dollars you cost them between birth and the time you finally got a job, you freeloading bastard.
Krez: Although ur point seems legit but at the same time, OP was not given a choice to be born or not and parents who choose to have children have a moral and legal obligation to provide for their children. Otherwise don't have kids. It really shouldn't be used as an argument. U don't have kids, raise them and then say payback time once they turn 18, as if u were keeping a tab.
Some parents actually do keep a tab...
I'm not suggesting that parents should keep a tab and charge it back, but that children should show a little bit of gratitude instead of nickle-and-dime-ing the people who raised them. If his "flat percentage of salary" is *so* much more than what they pay on his "expenses" (is it more than it would cost to get his own place?), why is he still living there in the first place? It sounds to me like the OP is thinking, "well, I use this much shampoo, and like only 25% of the electricity, and I don't eat dinner at home three nights a week..." and trying to rip them off. It his parents' home, not an a-la-cart menu. Why did I get voted down, when the following comment (#58) was voted up? We said the same thing (I just stated it in a more concise and tongue-in-cheek manner). Makes me think the FML demographic has a lot more entitled little brats than I thought.
It is a bit harsh to be called a "freeloading bastard" by your own parents... But they did raise OP and paid for him from when he was born till now... Paying them a bit of money back as a token of appreciation and to help out with the bills whilst living under their roof isn't too much to ask... Perhaps OP could have voiced his intentions a bit more tactfully... Like "I'm finding it financially difficult because the economy's crap and my salary sucks. I want to continue giving you guys money to help out with the bills and expenses, but can I pay less so I'm not strapped for cash almost every pay?" If OP didn't come across as ungrateful and penny-counting as he did, his parents may have reacted differently...
It's true. They gave you everything they could and you won't help them a little, you freeloading bastard.
Why is it always Texas that has the bad parents? XD I live in Texas, too, and I see so many fmls about bad parents, and most of those people are from Texas.
First of all, there is a possibility that op is in college, and is living with his parents to save money on housing. Second of all, as long as op is covering his expenses, I don't see what the problem is...
I assume most ppl who say u make a salary u should move out are mostly kids because in reality the first year of being in the real labour force after graduating from college is really difficult to save up and move out. Of course I'd move out if I shared a crappy relationship with my parents and/or freeloading and being a complete bum but there is nothing wrong staying with ur parents after 18 to save up.
OP, how old are you? If you're an adult, i would assume you would've moved out of your parents home. You are a freeloading bastard.
