Strict workforce you have there.
Not that you deserve it, but the moment you corrected your boss could play a role in your termination. If it was during an important meeting/in front of customers, and they got embarrassed, then an over-the-top reaction like that is not surprising. Did you try to keep your job by saying something like "twat?...*slight pause*...you ****...*slightly longer pause*...fire me just like that!"
your boss sucks
Everyone knows correcting your superior is a no-no.
Sue for wrongful termination?
Did you do it in front of other staff??? Ya not cool! You need finesse. make the mistake yourself and correct yourself in front of the boss. Lol
You definitely deserved it. The point of language is to communicate. Did his use of the incorrect word really hurt your understanding of the meaning all that much? I teach secondary language arts and I can tell you VERY few schools teach the difference between "who" and "whom" or "he and I" vs. "me and him". It isn't imperative in the grand scheme of things. I have no remorse when grammar Nazis get told off. You may think you're "smart," but you're just arrogant, pompous and annoying.
If someone "absentmindedly" corrects someone else's grammar, then it is likely a habit formed by doing it frequently.
Evilplatypus - It makes no difference if the meaning was understood or not. Incorrect is incorrect. Period. Using correct grammar has little to do with looking smart or being pompous. It's about using a language correctly. People who use nothing but jargon and slang get their point across, but is that how you want your boss talking to you? Or your doctor? if you teach language arts but choose not to teach certain parts because you perceive them to be "not imperative", then I don't believe you're a very good teacher.
I agree, correcting grammar is arrogant and pompous, unless it's someone very close. I wouldn't do it to my boss.
@ puppy23: it's either/or neither/nor - death to grammar nazis
That is not true. Education helps but it is not a requirement to communicate or to think. And, oh, by the way, there is no such thing as "thinking correctly" unless you live in nazi Germany.
Although I am not a grammar nazi. For some odd reason I feel obligated to say: grammar nazis unite. Find and eliminate OPs boss. We ride at dawn!!
