Today, I got my medical checkup back. Apparently, I'm diagnosed with a liver condition generally found in alcoholics. I've never drank in my life. FML

You can get liver problems if you mess around with pills. Same thing happened to my grandpa. Only one in my family who didn't drink a day in his life, but his doctors over-medicated him for a heart condition and he died from liver failure. I'd check any drugs you've been taking.

"I believe you have someone else's diagnosis!" Really...on what basis? Denial isn't healthy; the best thing you can do is face your condition head on with your head held high.

Happend to me. Guess what I did? I started drinking. Why the hell not, right?

"'If your liver ended up pickled like this it's your own doing and your own fault.' Seriously, dude...shut the **** up." Oh, what, so it's not the OP's fault? All right, firstly it's THEIR liver. These sorts of conditions do not just miracle themselves into existence. Second, you don't get sick from being healthy. The disease is likely cirrhosis of the liver, which is a usually brought on by strains hepatitis (a disease that affects primarily your liver), alcoholism, or, having a fatty liver- known in people who do not drink as non alcoholic fatty liver disease. insulin resistance and obesity can lead to this. stop being an idiot, greatnt249.

Do you drink a lot of sodas? Because studies are starting to show that high fructose corn syrup can damage the liver too, since the liver is the only part of the body that can filter it; the kidneys can't do it and the body doesn't use it. People consume a lot more of that than they do alcohol, even most people who do drink, so it has the potential to be even more damaging than booze. =/

Have a second blood test done to verify the results. Labs are generally reliable, but they do make mistakes,

go with #99 but also have them screen for hepatitis

#96, thank you. data has actually been published now showing diabetes can and is caused by high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). in addition to that, as 96 said, the liver is the only organ that metabolizes HFCS and data has also been published strongly linking cirrhosis and/or fatty liver disease to HFCS intake. OP, I don't know if you drink or eat things w/ HFCS in them, but in general, with the data that is coming out, I wouldn't be surprised to see a class action law suit in the next 10 years against Coke/Pepsi/Corn-Refiners/etc. that trivialized any suit against big tobacco. OP, it would probably be a good idea to go see an Endocrinologist for a glucose tolerance test, as well as a Berkley Lipid Profile if you have cirrhosis or fatty liver and do not drink at all. And just a personal comment to all the funtionally retarded individuals who keep saying that one drink makes an alcoholic or that one is born with alcoholism, please go read the diagnostic manual for alcohol abuse. You don't know what you're talking about.

"Oh, what, so it's not the OP's fault?" If you don't know, then don't judge; it could very easily be due to an autoimmune disorder or any number of genetic disorders. "stop being an idiot, greatnt249." Oh, the irony of this statement, given that I'm in medical school and you, most likely, are not. God help you if you ever become sick with something you never saw coming.

"in addition to that, as 96 said, the liver is the only organ that metabolizes HFCS and data has also been published strongly linking cirrhosis and/or fatty liver disease to HFCS intake." Source please. Given that fructose is a component of the disaccharide sucrose (table sugar) and that HFCS is just a mixture of fructose and glucose, I fail to see how the liver is the only organ that can metabolize HFCS. "the body doesn't use [fructose]." This is blatantly false.
