Today, I got rear-ended because my ultra-clingy girlfriend wouldn't let go of my hand long enough for me to shift gears. FML

At first I thought that said you rear-ended your girlfriend, OP. I guess it's unfortunate for you that you didn't.

apart from you being an idiot, 99% of the time if someone goes into the back of you it is their fault for being too close

She is immature if she can't go without holding your hand while you switch gears. You should either lay down some boundaries or leave her.

Put her hand on your inner thigh while you change gears or get an auto.

Next time, have her hold your other shift the one attached to your body!

if she is that much i would suggest you talk to her and ask her if she can hold anything else other than hands...

this is so dangerous, people could've been injured or killed.

My wife does the same thing. Just bring her hand to the stick with yours. That's what I do.

If you're not enough of a man to manage to control your vehicle, either through actual driving ability or the ability to talk to your missus and sort this out, you deserve it big time.

I hold my boyfriends hand when he drives all the time. But I always let go when he needs to change gears or when there is a huge turn and he needs both hands on the wheel. OP FYL your girlfriend is way to clingy or doesn't know anything about safe driving. But YDI for not forcing her to let go. Either way you need to have a serious talk with this girl.

There are some reasons why YDI. First: if you got rear-ended, it was probably the other guy's fault for being too close. Second: she's most certainly always been clingy. Why didn't you talk to her about this before? She's clingy because you allow her to. Third: why couldn't you just pull her had or make her let go? Is she really much stronger than you? Or are you afraid of her? But FYL because you obviously don't know better.
