Business casual is different than casual
As a requirement, you had to come dressed for the job? Did they tell you that before the interview? And if so, why didn't you ask for clarification at the time? The standard rule is ALWAYS go full business for the interview. Most of the time, you will be more dressed up than the interviewers.
Business casual is a thing... ydi for not investigating yourself. Or sending your friend a pic of what you were planning on to make sure.
If you're going for an interview casual dress is never an option. It's either a suit or at the very least black slacks and a button down shirt. Dress to impress.
Or maybe your friend didn't want you working there..
YDI- always overdress for an interview. Jeans are a no-no no matter where you are interviewing.
Unless it's Texas.
YDI for assuming that jeans were acceptable. Even if your friend told you casual you should still wear at least slacks and a blouse. My last interview was for a higher position in my company and i had called before to check about what to wear. HR told me it was acceptable to wear my uniform instead of dressing up.
Have you ever had a grown-up job before, OP? Also, I think your "friend" sabotaged you.
I have a career and I wear jeans everyday. I interviewed in joggers. It really depends on the job.
I work for a top 10 bank. I am a supervisor of a department. I make lots of money. I get to wear shorts and t-shirts to work. Not all places make you get dressed up for "grown-up" jobs.
Whilst it's possible your 'friend' doesn't know what casual means, my money is on 'actively trying to screw you over'. FYL, jobs are hard to come by these days!

Even if the office has a casual dress policy, you should have worn a business suit for your interview.
Casually kick your friend's ass
