Today, I had to yet again tell my mother-in-law that I wasn't going to name my unborn baby "Ermintrude" after her late mother. My husband told me to stop being difficult, and that he agrees that it would be nice. FML

Hey, at least you can give her a nickname! Ermie? Rude Trude? Maybe not.

U could always put that as a middle name and not actually use it..

Tell your mother-in-law that it is your child your choice and tell your husband that you are NOT giving YOUR child a BIZARRE name which will cause YEARS of bullying for YOUR child. An uncommon name? Sure. A rare name that though used infrequently is still known by people? Go ahead. Even go with a strange spelling of a common name if you like but do NOT give your kids names that you know no one will have heard of such as 'Ermintrude'.

Maybe you can shorten it up or change it a little and make it a nick name?

agree to use it, or a version of it, as w middle name. I got my first name from my great-grandmother (Lillian) then my middle name from her daughters middle name, my grandma, (Marie). maternal side. then the same pattern went for my little sister only using the paternal side-on Ellenor Ruth. we love our old-lady names. but your family doesn't have the taste mine did in names. maybe find out what Ermintrude's middle name was?

I don't think I've ever heard a name that bad before...your husband and his mother are idiots.

You should name it Athole (Made of Honor reference)

How about you name your child Girtrude Fingerfuddruckers?
