Am I the only one would read that as the waitress thought he lowered the tip by a dollar? Maybe he actually lowered it by more but the waitress was unable to read it clearly. Therefore, she thought she saw a one dollar difference and made that comment, which was completely unnecessary anyway. That may be a bit of a stretch, but it's a possibility.
#3, In New York, if you don't tip your waiters, next time they'll piss in your food. In fact, here, unless a waiter does a really awful job, you are expected to at least double the tax of 8.375%. For example, if I get a $25 dollar meal, unless the waiter/waitress is a bumbling idiot who ****** everything up, they will receive $4 or 5, with personal discretion. Waiters and waitresses don't even make minimum wage and not giving them credit for their hard work is really evil of you.
Nobody should tip for takeout, you morons.
I agree with #3. No one automatically deserves a tip, and honestly, I don't care if waitresses make minimum wage. If you're bad at your job or you make it clear to me you don't care about me (or my table), then you don't deserve any extra money. People who don't like waiting on other people should get another job, don't waitress. Everyone knows the deal when they get a job as a waitress, good service = good tips (and before anyone complains about what I said: for the record, I am a notoriously good tipper, as in sometimes more than 20% for good service). As a sidenote: any time I have heard someone complain about the plight of waiters/waitresses, and their minimum wage, and how they should get tips no matter what, it's usually because that person is a waiter/waitress. I don't know why you all stick up for each other, some of your fellow-waitstaff are just bad at their jobs. I'm an EMT and I don't stick up for every EMT on the planet. Anyway, disregarding the fact that you took back a dollar, what she did is really weird and awkward and rude and unprofessional. I would have crossed it out all together. And probably told her boss what she did.
and #59, the reason you leave a penny is so that the server knows you aren't just insolent, but that you would have tipped him if he had done a better job. You can talk to the manager also, but leaving a penny shows that you have the class to remember that tips are expected, and that you made the choice not to leave one. That way, the minute the waiter or waitress sees it, he or she knows that you were displeased.
Actually waiters and waitresses make like $2.13 an hour and most of it they don't even get because of taxes. So pretty much the only money they (we) make is our tips. Thats what we're there for. Even if someone gave you bad service they still served you. Now if the service was ******* terrible on purpose thats a different story, but we arnt out to do that cause we work for tips. Its easy to make mistakes and sometimes its not even our fault cause the kitchen people are assholes and we have to ****** scream at eachother in the back to get the food right and out on time. So **** all of you people who dont tip or just leave a penny. yall are assholes who think they deserve perfect service cause you're better than a waitress? anyway thats not even what this fml is about but yall piss the **** out of me when you think you should be treated like a king while eating at El Chico.
That waitress is a Bitch. Give her whatever you damn want to. I would have walked up to her and made her watch me write a big fat 0! Ha ha

What does it matter if she saw you do it or not? She would have seen it crossed out in a little bit anyway. It's a weird thing that you would bother to cross it out and lower it by only a dollar, seeing as how a dollar is relatively insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but it's just weird as opposed to horrible. Plus, it was only take out, people don't normally tip on take out at all so if I were her, I'd feel grateful to have even gotten a couple dollars.
I think what he means is that he wants the waiter to make the night good by providing good service and that they should have to work for a big tip and not just expect it
