Today, I ordered take out, and paid with a credit card. The cute cashier gave me the receipt to sign, and under 'tip' I gave a couple of dollars. I realized that I had given too much, crossed it out, and changed it. Unaware she was watching, She then responded, "Did you just lower the tip by $1?" FML

What does it matter if she saw you do it or not? She would have seen it crossed out in a little bit anyway. It's a weird thing that you would bother to cross it out and lower it by only a dollar, seeing as how a dollar is relatively insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but it's just weird as opposed to horrible. Plus, it was only take out, people don't normally tip on take out at all so if I were her, I'd feel grateful to have even gotten a couple dollars.

I think what he means is that he wants the waiter to make the night good by providing good service and that they should have to work for a big tip and not just expect it

who tips for takeout anyway? its takeout, not delivery, and not being waited on.

ok first one buck? come on. second, she was in no place to comment... totaly unprofesional ok #3 you are stupid... waiters and waitreses make about 3 bucks and hour... tips are totaly expected. # 18, making every body feel like the best person in the world is NOT there job. there job is to serve you your food, if they did there job... you tip them. #55 yeah the comment wasnt her place... but wanting a tip isnt being greedy its wanting a real pay check..come on. #120 wtf? making $100??? i dont think so... at a normal resterrant working for 6 hours your making $20 a DAY with out tips, thats what other people make in 3 hours... if people tip 20% that gets them up to about minimum wadge... but most people tip less. #63 that last comment was freken halarious!! and #104 thats exactly right

All you dumbasses getting mad just because he took away a dollar from the tip need to get a life. Seriously it's take-out not dine-in or delivery. If she wanted that extra dollar she can go and prostitute. Maybe she'll get another 1.50 extra so she could go and buy herself a life

what i dont like about america is that they have a 'service charge' and then expect you to tip on top of that... either/or like not both..... in ireland you tip if the service is good, you're not obliged to do so and there is no 'service charge'

#3: See here in AMERICA, waiters get paid on a lower scale under the expectation that they will be given ~15% tips. 10% is reasonable for takeout (someone puts it together) and 20%+ for great service, and I'll be the first to ream a waiter who bitches about getting less than 20%, but pricks like you are the reason God made microwave dinners. Sit down, shut up, and eat your ******* Swiss steak. OP: Fail. Do math 1st next time.

Lol, it's your money. It's whatever.

I completely agree with you, #129. Eat shit and die, #3

Being promoted from to-go's I worked hard to make sure EVERYTHING came out correctly, hot and fresh, and on time. So you can take it home and enjoy it. By not tipping is a totally bull! If you're that cheap and do not understand what people in restaurants have to put up with, then there is always fast food! It will be cheaper and faster! PLUS you people that don't tip or are just plain shitty tippers this will also be a good route to go also.

I work curbside takeout (we take your order, box it, and bring it directly to your car) at a large restaurant chain, and we only get paid one dollar more than servers. So, newsflash: we live off tips too.

I always try to tip around 15 % =/ Its hard on a college kid's budget to even eat out at restaurants. When the occurrence does, at least 10%. 20% for amazing service. But working any job, I realize that when people have to deal with people directly, ***** going to happen that the employee cannot control (ie kitchen slowdown, etc) But in that case, the server should at least tell the customers what's going on. I can't think of anytime where I had terrible service. Though I hate when the waitress/waiter forgets to bring the check. Me and my girlfriend went to go get some ice cream sundaes at a friendlies. The waitress was good, checked on us. But after we finished.. it was a good 30 minutes until we got the check. Like I said, I can understand kitchen problems, but at that case, what happened =/ . Though we still threw 3 dollars her way =/ . I didn't mind that much, being away from my girlfriend, it was nice to spend time with her.
