Today, I ordered take out, and paid with a credit card. The cute cashier gave me the receipt to sign, and under 'tip' I gave a couple of dollars. I realized that I had given too much, crossed it out, and changed it. Unaware she was watching, She then responded, "Did you just lower the tip by $1?" FML

What does it matter if she saw you do it or not? She would have seen it crossed out in a little bit anyway. It's a weird thing that you would bother to cross it out and lower it by only a dollar, seeing as how a dollar is relatively insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but it's just weird as opposed to horrible. Plus, it was only take out, people don't normally tip on take out at all so if I were her, I'd feel grateful to have even gotten a couple dollars.

I think what he means is that he wants the waiter to make the night good by providing good service and that they should have to work for a big tip and not just expect it

It's bullshit that servers can't call people out for bad tipping. If you're too cheap to tip, make your own damn food. If you expect someone to bring cooked food over to your lazy ass, fill your water and drinks so you don't have to move while stuffing your fat face, and act nice to you (who I can safely assume isn't worth a second of my time), ******* TIP OR DON'T EAT OUT! Occasionally I see servers call people out for bad tipping, and it's awesome.

#5, So if a waiter comes over all crappy and mad about life and just drops your food down on the table you would tip?

#95: You're an idiot. It was take-out. This was not a waitress. To all you who claim the OP is cheap, may I point out that you have no idea how much the bill was? Tipping an extra dollar on a $5 tab is an EXTRA 20%. Tipping a "little extra" every time is how tips have gone from the old 10% to 15% to 18% and now to 20%. Besides, if it's "only a dollar" then why is it okay for the cashier to bitch about it, but NOT okay for the OP to keep his own money when he did all the work? Once again, this is take-out, not a sit-down situation. The OP said, "cashier" not even "delivery girl." (Delivery people deserve tips for having to risk life and limb to get past all you crazy drivers. Yes, I mean YOU, Internet reader. You drive like ass and you know it. Use your blinkers, you inconsiderate jerk.) OP: The correct answer is to bare-face it. "Yes, I lowered it by a dollar. I put too much on the first time," and challenge her to defend her dollar-grubbing. But forget about a date unless you have some SERIOUS charm.

i dont get why you would tip someone who didnt give you any form of service other than handing you your food? that doesnt deserve extra money. i agree with thuryn.

You couldn't spare an extra dollar?

FYL because the waitress was a bitch. She didn't have any place to comment on how much of a tip you left. But YDI because you're obviously really cheap. And it never ceases to amaze me how the people here who have claimed they worked as a waiter/waitress don't expect tips. That is an outright LIE. You're at work and you think you've done your best work. But you still get a shitty tip. You're trying to tell me that you wouldn't be pissed off? Yeah right. Get over yourselves. Waiters and waitresses make less than minimum wage. All the money they make comes from their tips. If everyone in the world was as cheap and as much of a douche bag as #3 then there would be no waiters or waitresses left in this world.

It's a dollar. I mean really? You shouldn't have cares about that dollar THAT much to take it out of the tip. But at the same time she shouldn't have commented on you doing that. It's not life or death. I mean seriously, what can you buy with a dollar these days? A pack of skittles?

Just so you know... We do not make JUST minimum wage. We make a server's minimum wage which is significantly less. Regular minimum wage is $6.55 here and a server's is $2.13. You should take that into consideration next time you are not going to tip. Yes, we expect a tip.

So if I'm poor living from paycheck to paycheck do I still have to? Cause I usually only have so much for one good place to eat like Denny's or norms. Dont judge if I don't it's not my fault you get so little so don't EXPECT it. That's rude and you make us feel bad and pushed into tipping. SORRY BUT I CANT AFFORD TO ETHIER!!! If I think you did an awesome job I will if I can but don't freakin EXPECT it
