Cheapaaasss.
I would've been like, 'are you watching me writing down my tip?' then scratch off what i wrote and lowered it by one more dollar
you should of said "well i was just gonna lower it a doller, but since you said something im not tipping you at all" and crossed all that shit out and wrote "dumb bitch" on the recipt
whether it was a dollar or not, who cares? it's your generousity. very unprofessional for her to say anything. and along with that... i have to ask why the **** there are tip jars at the ice creamery counters, and at starbucks, ect? You get paid minimum wage already. You aren't bringing me my food/coffee/ect. so you do not deserve anything extra.
why would you tip somebody for take out all they did was take your order and hand it to you when it's made. If it's a waitered restaurant where there was wait staff and you ate there it's a different story.
#3 if you live in the US you're an ass. Here, restaurant workers get something like $3 an hour base, and tips make up the rest. Having said that, they should NOT be watching you fill in the tip space. If they said that to me, I would cross out the tip space completely and say "No, I'm taking off a bit more than $1."
I can definitely understand those commenters saying that waiters do not automatically receive a tip, however more often than not it is not the waiter's fault if you don't receive the service that you'd like. It's generally a back up in the kitchen and the overworking of a small wait staff that slows things down, which is the number one reason people generally claim "bad service." It's really not fair to hold your waiter/waitress responsible unless they are outright rude to you. And no, #77, I have never been a waitress. I just understand that people can only do so much.
I agree with #19. She shouldn't be watching you and have the gall to comment on it as well. You should have taken the whole tip off. It's take out...it's not like she waited on you.
Correct response: Yes I did. And if you continue to stand over customers as they write the tip, expect this to be a common occurence.
Um, okay, am I the only one who's never seen a space for a tip when picking up food? I've only ever been handed a small receipt with a line for my signature. Even if there was, there's no reason to tip when you're the one doing all the legwork. Delivery? Eat-in? Obviously. Take-out? Hell no.

What does it matter if she saw you do it or not? She would have seen it crossed out in a little bit anyway. It's a weird thing that you would bother to cross it out and lower it by only a dollar, seeing as how a dollar is relatively insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but it's just weird as opposed to horrible. Plus, it was only take out, people don't normally tip on take out at all so if I were her, I'd feel grateful to have even gotten a couple dollars.
I think what he means is that he wants the waiter to make the night good by providing good service and that they should have to work for a big tip and not just expect it
