Are you that cheap? Did you consider that the cost of making the copies, plus the time wasted making the copies, plus the Starbucks coffee you drink in a week could have bought the book?
Karma. Pure and simple Karma. Next time, just buy the book; people like you just raise the price for the rest of us, as the book company has to get their profits somehow. Can't afford it? Take out a student loan; everyone else does.

That sounds illegal
Wow a lot of people really have no idea how expensive text books are. There is no way paying to make a copy would even come close to the cost of the book. It's pretty common for books to cost hundreds of dollars. I once bought a programming book the teacher said we needed. It cost $120 and we never used it at all. I brought it back to the book store and they wouldn't buy it because no teachers were using it the next year.
