Today, I pretended to not be able to go out with a friend so I could hang with my boyfriend at the movies. When I sat down I received a text that said, "Turn around." It was her. FML

ydi for having your phone on in the theatre :)

I don't see what the big deal is. If you told her that you weren't able to go, you were telling the truth. You couldn't go because you had plans with your boyfriend. You shouldn't have to justify yourself.

Exactly. Why would OP have to PRETEND to not be able to hang out with a friend if she had plans with her boyfriend? If you are going to the movies with your boyfriend, you ARE busy and unable to spend time with friends. If OP did make up an excuse that was a lie ("I have to stay at home to work on a project," etc.), that was wrong, sure. But there should have been no reason for her to have done so. Unless the friend is the type who freaks out when someone wants to do something other than hang out with him/her. There are people like that.

wow you lied to hang out with your boyfriend? you should have just told her you and your boyfriend were already planning to do something. -.-

Honesty is a good policy, especially if you want to keep your friends. I notice sometimes girls (and maybe guys) will often get caught up in relationships and blow off their friends for their significant others. It's probably not healthy (or sustainable) for any of the people involved. Balance is important.

next time have the guts to tell your friend the truth

that's what happens when you choose a bf/gf over a true friend.
