That's how it is people. After they euthanize your beloved animal, they take it out back and toss it into a big freezer-dumpster with all the other animals.
We took our cat home and buried her ourselves.
It's actually illegal to take your pet home with you and bury it yourself, but a lot of places let you do it anyway. I was unaware of this law until my cat broke his leg and was taken to the nearest clinic. He was too old to repair and they refused to let me have him afterwards. Now I only go to clinics that are willing to bend the rules.
Why so sad? They all have to be put down eventually. I've had to put down 4 cats myself. Hell, I had to put my son down yesterday! I couldn't hold him forever. He's just gotten so big and heavy that my arm got tired and I.... Oh...put DOWN. Oooooh. Never mind.
Oh how I love semantics. Haha
Many on here would likely not have understood the FML right away if OP had used the term "euthanize", judging by past FMLs which contain less common terminology.
I was once put down. Apparently I'm not supposed to maul people. But I survived. Turns out, the mistook Vodka for euthanizing serum. Those were some stupid doctors, but I was staggering everywhere for the whole week. Hell, I'm surprised I didn't die! I guess I have a high tolerance :D
stop trolling.
Every vet I've ever met has been lovely and compassionate... Congrats on your choice of job. I hope tomorrows better.
I'd never be a vet
Yeah, I need to get some sleep. It took me about a minute to realize this didn't say, "Today, I got my dream job as a vegetarian."
That's why I could never be a vet. You're a lot braver than me for taking that job.
Get over it. It's toe job.
I'm assuming you meant "it's your job", so I'll treat your comment as such. Please tell me exactly what you know about tough jobs? I lose patients occasionally, and it sucks. It NEVER gets easier. Sure, it's part of my job, but I still go home and tell the sad story to my wife. Should she say "Get over it" to me? This type of story is what this site is about. If you don't like it or agree, then the one who needs to "get over it" is you.
You tell him Doc.
Maybe you should scratch that itch, Alan. You'd feel better, and it would be one less 'numpty' that we'd have to worry about.
...a toe job? Kinky. And disturbing.
What kind of vets office are you working at that they made you put down that many animals on your first day? Sounds like you must be the vet at the local pound. Also, to all the people saying they were put out of their pain and misery, OP never said the animals were sick or injured. And there's no law (at least where I am) that says you can't put down a healthy animal. My grandma had her perfectly healthy cat put down after it killed a bird. Apparently, that made it the 'devil cat' who deserved the death penalty.
Your grammy is a bitch for penalizing a cat for doing something that's instinctive for it to be doing. If she didn't want it killing things so easily she should have kept her pet cat inside. Haters gonna hate, cats gonna kill small furry things.

It's sad I know, but if they were sick or hurt you're still helping them. You have a great job OP, be proud.
I once wanted to be a vet, but the thought of having to put down so many animals turned me away. I realized I made a good decision as even reading this FML makes me cry.
