Today, I started my dream job of being a veterinarian. My first day consisted of having to put down 12 dogs and 5 cats. FML

It's sad I know, but if they were sick or hurt you're still helping them. You have a great job OP, be proud.

I once wanted to be a vet, but the thought of having to put down so many animals turned me away. I realized I made a good decision as even reading this FML makes me cry.

I'm a vet in a really busy practice and we never have to do that many. I also think you must be working at a shelter. That's gonna kill ya OP, look elsewhere. If you're not at a shelter, you can refuse to do convenience euthanasias. I have had a few people recently want to put down several perfectly fine dogs and convinced them to leave them with our miraculous no kill shelter. Hang in there OP. And by the way FML, sure, post this sad fml, but not my hilarious one about the pot eating dog with the crazy owner.

I would have loved to read about that FML!! Maybe next time!

Holy Hell! That's a lot of animals for one day! I wish more people would realize how important it is to get their pets fixed! Especially where I live. Many here don't think a dog is worthy unless it's a purebred. It's pretty sad.):

I have a purbreed australian cattle dog and a mixed breed (vets think she is a papillon/chihuahua mix). I couldn't imagine anybody not loving a dog if it isn't purebred. My little dog has the most ridiculously adorable little face. You can't look at her without thinking "you're just so damn cute!"

That *is* really sad, but it's a necessary part of the job. We had to have our beautiful cat put down 11 years ago - it broke our hearts, but the vet being so caring and compassionate helped get us through a dreadful time. We were there holding her when she crossed over, so I'm glad we were able to give her that gift, even though it hurt like hell. I hope you never have to go through a day like that again - that's almost too much for one person to bear. Very sorry, OP.

I actually believe we are reunited with our beloveds, including our beloved pets in heaven.

If you went to veterinary school, you should know it was going to happen. Yes it was a lot in one day to start. But you knew it was going to happen and need to suck it up. That's part of being a vet get used to it.

Awwww :( (I actually said this after reading this post...True Story)

That's why I had to let go of that dream too.

Why? She helps more animals then she puts down

I brought my dog in for his vaccines at the vet clinic, and this poor lady was bawling her eyes out, unconsolable. She was holding her dog's body wrapped up in a blanket. He was put down moments before, she was taking him Home to bury. Makes me tear up thinking about it. ;(

awwwwww :( bringing back horrible memories...... Yah, as a vet & having to see these things day in and day out could get at you. Especially if something has happened like that to you, as it has to me--- everyday I'd relive such horrible memories..

It was heartbreaking. She was a older lady about late 70s and said that when her husband died, that her dog "was her entire world and now she has nobody."
