Today, I tried to rid my son of his pacifier. He still uses it to sleep. My son is 20 years old. FML

There are worse things for your son to be sucking on before he sleeps.

I'm 21 and still have my baby blanket. I'm not ashamed of it either. You'd be surprised how common it actually is. For example, I live in a dorm of about 30 other students. At least 2 other students that I know also still have their baby blankets.

i'd say there was a massive difference between still having your baby blanket and still sucking on a dummy

Agreed. People are weird. At least this weirdness can be explained by an addictive habit and even a birth reflex that initiated the whole thing. If OP wanted to stop it, she's AT LEAST 15 years too late. At this point it'd be really difficult for him for nothing. By the way, I still have a baby blanket as well. To each his own.

I agree with whatwasthatnoise. Most people use blankets or comforters anyway, so who cares whether you're using your baby blanket or a different one? However, you can't really say the same about a pacifier. Not to mention using a pacifier for too long puts you at risk of buck teeth (just like sucking your thumb). Using your baby blanket is not going to put you at risk of anything. I still have the teddy I got when I was born, and slept with it on my bed til I was 20. Massive difference between teddies/blankets and pacifiers.

Actually, FOR THE MOST PART (emphasis), the dental problems are an oldwives tale. It depends on how hard the person sucks on the thing they're sucking on (i.e. thumb or pacifier) and how well it fits in their mouth (thumb size/pacifier size). I STILL suck my thumb and I'm one of the few I know who never had (or needed) braces. The whole thing CAN BE fairly harmless.

There are three explanations for this: 1: This is fake. 2: The OP's son is a raver. 3: The OP is a miserable failure as a father. All three are equally as likely. And yes, I know that not all ravers are retarded enough to rock their pacifiers 24/7, but I do know a few that are.

OP's son could have some emotional disorders or be extremely stressed. It's an oral fixation and it's soothing to him. For example, people will stop smoking, but take up gum chewing instead. No one's mentioned this, but it's also possible that OP hasn't been doing this his whole life and it's a new development, in which case, if he's not a raver, it really probably is an emotional problem.

1) OP is a woman, not a man. 2) Doubtful that OP is a raver as the problem seems to have been a long term thing, not some new habit. 3) OP still fails either way.

Never mind- google is my friend.

Is he one of those guys who has a fetish for being treated like a baby and wears nappies (his girlfriend has to change those)? If so…best to actively work on erasing this memory.

i'm just gonna say that your son is a raver.

YDI for not taking his pacifier away when he was a kid.

Jeez that sucks. I hope it wasn't because you let him have it for this long.

Do you still use diapers and breastfeed your son?

Ewww. Probably one of those freaks who have a fetis for this kind of thing. He's never gonna get laid. At least, by a normal person.

Having a fetish doesn't make him a freak -_-

I think it might be worth looking into professional help to break his habit if it's gone on for this long.
