Funny thing is that irregardless is recognized in the dictionary. So technically, you're wrong
It's recognized as non-standard in most dictionaries. What's your point? What's she "wrong" about? Her only claim is that it doesn't make much sense. The word being in the dictionary doesn't change that. It's a bastard hybrid word that negates its own intended meaning.

Clearly you understood him, so there was no need to correct him. You're not the most perfect being on Earth so stop taking opportunities to put yourself above people. Also, irregardless is in the dictionary, and many people learn to say that instead of regardless. I'm not saying it's correct, I'm saying that you can't call him an idiot for using it.
Maybe you don't like him as much as you thought if you couldn't stop yourself from taking a poke at him.
