Today, I was closing the deal on this beautiful $200k ranch in the country. The buyer soon pulls up and we get to discussing the contract terms, soon the buyer asks the seller," Wow why is this house going so cheap?" The seller replies, "Do you believe in ghosts?" There goes my $8,000 commission. FML

Wow. That is totally screwed up. I hope the seller was saying that as a joke, if the seller wasn't then they are a total idiot.

You got the wrong buyers. If I had the money, I would've bought the house BECAUSE of the ghosts. Unless they were vengeful spirits. I'm sorry though, that really sucks. Especially in this global economy XP.

This required two dumb people for the deal to fail.... the seller for mentioning something for which there is no evidence, and the buyer for believing it. Now, if the the buyer was an unbeliever, the smart thing would have been to say " It's haunted? Then I can't give you more than 160k."

A RE agent has the responsibility to disclose all material information about a property to the seller... including ghosts. YDI.

#34 I thought ghosts were immaterial. That's why they are ghosts ;) However, http://hauntedrealestateblog.com/wordpress/?page_id=56

Well...I did YDI, if you knew about the "ghost" myth and didn't tell the home buyer. If the old owner was just being a douche or you never knew this fact then yeah, definitely a big FML.

OP, that really sucks. FYL indeed.

@31: He wasn't the one buying the house, he was a Realtor helping the seller sell the property, so the seller saying something that stupid would conceivably make the buyers want to back out, meaning that HE, the one making the deal happen, would no longer get his commission.

Haunting in Connecticut all over again?

First off, you are retarded for having the seller and buyer see each other in person. OR even talk for that matter. That is completely unethical. There are reasons why the seller and buyer should not meet. And majority of them are beneficial for the seller, surprised you didnt get fired for this! You deserved this for sure.

I agree with #2. And,Wow, that's too bad. ):
