Today, I was closing the deal on this beautiful $200k ranch in the country. The buyer soon pulls up and we get to discussing the contract terms, soon the buyer asks the seller," Wow why is this house going so cheap?" The seller replies, "Do you believe in ghosts?" There goes my $8,000 commission. FML

Wow. That is totally screwed up. I hope the seller was saying that as a joke, if the seller wasn't then they are a total idiot.

You got the wrong buyers. If I had the money, I would've bought the house BECAUSE of the ghosts. Unless they were vengeful spirits. I'm sorry though, that really sucks. Especially in this global economy XP.

I'd still buy it. What kind of moron believes in ghosts? But I might try to negotiate the price a bit lower if he said that, just because I could save some money by taking advantage of someone's superstitions. My friend's parents got a bargain because the previous owners were murdered in the house, and I've never noticed anything odd about it.

aren't you still entitled to your commission even if the contract hasn't been signed? i'm pretty sure that in some states you are entitled commission regardless because you performed your duty of finding someone willing to buy the property. it was his fault for talking about the ghosts.. although i think that scenario works if you are representing the seller and looking for a buyer... maybe you're looking for a home for a buyer

So, the buyers didn't buy the house because it's supposedly haunted? Seriously?

OMG! $200K RANCH, AND it's haunted?! Dude...if I had the money I would TOTALLY buy it. That kicks so much ass. On the flipside, hopefully this will make the seller think twice before opening his mouth again, unless he doesn't WANT to sell the place.

You deserved that one. I can't believe you were trying to sell someone a haunted ranch, thats so messed up. If someone sold me a haunted anything I would come after their heads.

superstitious people are annoying. I laugh in the face of danger! ha ha ha ha!

The ghost must be really bad if he is selling his ranch because of it. I think you need to tell people about it.

#41....the OP said that it was the day of closing. In many states, the buyer and the seller sit down and sign the papers and exchange the keys together in the same room on the day of closing.

200k for a ranch is in no way cheap. I call bullshit or at least a terrible story. You should be setting up a retirement fund or taking your kids to soccer practice not posting gay stories on the internet, how ******* old are you?

69 Yeah i can see that, but at that point, a buyer cannot back out, once the offer is put in, and accepted and all terms and conditions are met, and i highly doubt there was a "ghost clause" in the agreement In Canada that isnt allowed, or is viewed as unethical because the buyer and seller may use, abuse, certain advantages or disadvantages. eg are.....someone wont buy a house because a pakistani family lived in it, because they cooked with currie, or anything to that fact.
