Today, I was driving on the highway and a cop had his radar gun out. The woman in front of me panics and slams her brakes on, causing me to rear end her. The cop cited me for "tailgating" and I have to pay for the damages on both of our cars. FML

Thats the technical definition of tailgating. If you're so close to the other car that in a situation in which the car in front of you suddenly breaks, and you rear end the car in front of you, that would be tailgating. Really, what do you think tailgating is if its not exactly the situation you're in now?

I cant stand people who slam on their brakes whenever they see a cop. Especially when the dudes on the other side of the highway

Thats the definition of tailgating. Didn't you learn the two-second rule?

Um you're not a good driver. If you had a three second following distance, you would have been fine. I have no pity for you.

The longest word in English: antidisestablishmentarianism

thats totally your fault. watch the road better and maybe you weren't on the other car's ass but if you were close enough to hit them when they slammed on brakes... you shouldnt be driving that close. durrrrr. but yes. i hate when people slam on the brakes when they see a cop. DONT drive that fast. plus that jsut catches their attention even more when their radar drops from 10 above to 5 below the speed limit.

Even if she slammed on the brakes, you were following too close if you hit her. Your fault.

136 you dont come to a screeching halt when theres a cop... you slow down and chances are he wasnt going THAT much more over the limit.

it's been said numerous times already, but YDI. I've taken numerous safe driver courses just to have my insurance reduced and they've all said the same thing...Two seconds MINIMUM for safe distance. What if it hadn't been a cop but a deer had darted out into the road? Guess what, she would've still slammed on her brakes, and you still would've hit her...because you can't be bothered to not drive like an asstard.

I'm with the people who say that most of the "car length" and "2 second rule" people arent realistic. I mean seriously, try it in NY, and you'll NEVER get to your destination, why? try the fact that if someone else sees 6 car lengths between u and a car, him and 20 other people will squeeze into that space. If you tell me to just repeat the process every time someone moves in, I might as well shove it in reverse and hope I get to where I want to go.

You are a crappy driver and fully deserve it. If you are too close to avoid an accident, you deserve it. Quit bitching.
