Today, I was talking to my only grandson about how I was going to the dentist to get my teeth fixed and how it was going to cost a lot of money, he replied saying "Who cares, you're going to die soon anyways". FML

Today, while at a family reunion, I jokingly asked my 18-year-old son, "When are you and your girlfriend going to give me a grandson?" He then retorted, "When are you going to die?" I was unable to answer at all. FML

Today, while chatting with my in-laws, I told them about my upcoming spinal surgery. Soon after, when I went to get us some drinks, I overheard them murmuring about how many surgeries I've already had, how I'm a drain on the healthcare system, and how I should ideally just die. FML

Reminds me of my (no longer living) grandfather who commented, upon some form of discussion of whether his grown kids should pay for some expense of his, "Eh, I'm spending your money either way." Because of course, if they spend more out of his money than their own pockets now, they just inherit less of it later. And he realistically didn't expect to be around too much longer. Usually, though, one doesn't voice those thoughts quite so bluntly in front of the not-dead-yet...

maybe he wanted to enjoy a full set of teeth like he used to have in his final years of life? hell my grandmother drove around a convertible for a while, if you're approaching the end of your life might as well enjoy it. if my teeth are messed up when i'm old i'm definitely gonna get them fixed.

I think the kid is saying something important. It's true, you're going to die soon, we all are- so why are you spending your money and time and putting up with needless pain for a cosmetic procedure? Are you worried about picking up chicks at your age?
