Today, I went home after work with my best friend who I am also secretly in love with. We had a few drinks, were getting touchy, and one thing led to another. Before leaving, I got the courage to ask her out on a real date. Her only reply was, "I don't want to lose such a good friend." FML

Medication tells us more.

I didn't have an account when I posted this, but I'm the OP, and honestly, during our drunken state, I mustered up enough sobriety to prevent things from going too far. I as well, didn't want to ruin things between us by having sex because I respected her too much, and wanted more than that. Was it the right thing to do, or was I just being a dumbass? One commenter was correct in stating that she was confused as to what she really wanted. Either way, we've talked it out, and moved over that. It's better anyways maybe, considering we both work together and I have to go on months long deployments with this girl, haha. :]

Maybe she's legit scared of losing you as a friend. And I could understand her feeling that way especially after a sexual encounter. Give it some time and see what happens. In any case, I hope things work out for you

At least she didn't say it in a rude way.

That really really sucks. However, she may be afraid to take the jump because you are valuable to her. It's a double-sided blade, my friend. But maybe after some time she will change her mind!

You should have asked for the date first. Sex usually messes up friendships...YDI

i have never understood this attitude. why would you want your lover to be anyone other than a good friend? for a long term relationship liking someone may be even more important than loving them. People friendzone the people they really like, and then cry in the drink that there are no good people out there for them. WAKE UP PEOPLE

OP, please tell me you assured her how much she means to you and your intentions!! Clearly she wants to be more than friends with you, she's just afraid things won't work out and she'll loose you. Women want to be reassured of these things, you gotta step up! Call her and tell her before it's too late!!

Friends with benefits is better than straight up friend zone. There's a possibility that you wouldn't be able to be friends again if you had a relationship and broke it off.

Your 'friend' relationship is screwed the instant you gain penetration or 'benefits' of any kind. Either try for a relationship or no longer be friends. You can't just pretend it never happened especially if you are best friends.
