Today, I went out with a girl I like. After a movie, we went to McDonald's. There was this couple making out. The girl I was with remarked about how lame it would be to go to McDonald's on a date. I thought we were on a date. FML

Today, I went to the movies with a girl I like, then we went to grab a bite afterwards. She spent most of the time telling me how much she dislikes my best friend because he hooked up with a new girl. I then found out the two had been "talking" for a while. FML

Today, I was on a date with a girl I've had feelings for since I was 14 (I'm 22). I took her out to dinner, then to a movie that we both liked and had a few drinks afterwards. I thought it was going really well until I was driving her home and she asked to be dropped off at her boyfriend's house. FML

Today, I invited my girlfriend to go eat out, hoping to put her in a really romantic mood. She decided to tell her friend, who then invited herself and another couple along. I ended up being made fifth wheel, and had to sit alone at an adjacent table. FML

I think you're over thinking this... you went to a movie first so it's not like you only went to McDonalds... so I think it could still be considered a date hmmm idk I would ask her out again and feel out if she considers you guys dating or not

McDonalds and a movie w/treats can add up to expensive to a teenager. Especially considering he might not have a car. Fancy restaurants require fancy dress as well. I would not expect to see 2 young teens alone at a 5 star restaurant on a date...unless they are from wealthy families. If OP is an adult someplace nicer would be better, there are great interesting restaurants under 5 stars. Put more thought into it next time, that is what is more important.
