Today, I went to a fast-food joint and ordered off the $1.00 menu to save money. Five hours later I go to the hospital with food-poisoning. After a whole day of not eating, crapping, puking, having tests, and a bunch of IV fluids, my $1.00 burger ended up costing me $2,000 in bills. Really. FML

There's no way that would cost 24 grand. 3 months ago I had an ER visit, an EKG, CAT scan, multiple other tests, IV fluids & antibiotics, & an overnight stay for a massive infection that had almost lead to sepsis. It (would have if I hadn't had insurance) cost me $9,000.

#91, the UK dental care may not be perfect but it's pretty good. We can get dental insurance and get private care, or we can use the subsidised NHS care. I'm an NHS patient and I recently had eight white fillings and two amalgam fillings spread out over four apppointments. All of that (plus my inital appointment with X-rays and everything) cost me £44.60. If I had done it privately it would have been about £80 PER TOOTH, plus the consultation fees, X-rays etc. So I'm actually pretty fond of the NHS. It may not be perfect, but I'm thankful for it.

You're right, the UK health system is great ... I got a filling when I was living there and it cost me 14 pounds, one year later, the exact same filling in Australia cost me $285 ... Admittedly, it was the same filling, so the British one didn't last as long, but at least they covered it. The NHS was great, something the Australians (who are slowly but surely falling behind to the American system's level) should learn from...

I'd highly doubt it was from the fast food place given the amount of time... The problem is it's so hard to trace back for some people where they've been and ate etc...

Ba da ba ba ba, I'm LOVIN it!!!!!!!!

#6, #20 and anyone else making comments on the cost of groceries versus eating out: Did you people ever think that he meant he went to a fast food restaurant because he wanted to, but he ordered of the dollar menu to save money at the restaurant instead of ordering something more expensive?? He never said he went to a fast food restaurant to save money! And food poisoning does not take more then 24 hours to show. OP: Wow, that sucks. I had something similar before. Ate at a fast food place b/c I was out and didn't have any other choice for lunch. Got food poisoning and was so sick. Except I have free health care....

that sucks. i say that you should brew a rather large lawsuit. and i would seriously punch anybody who puts YDI on FMLs like these.
