Today, I went to a pet store to adopt a dog. I got a medium sized lab, a dog crate, and a few toys, then put his crate in the back of my truck and the dog in his crate. On the way home I realized I forgot dog bowls and some dog food. I went back, and when I got back out to my truck, my dog was gone. My stereo too. FML

Your dog probably stole that shit and ran, those labs are pretty sketchy.

So like was the buisness a scam?

It wasn't that someone stole his dog and his stereo out of his car...his dog stole the stereo and then GTFO!

Impulse buying is a nono, YDI :(

YDI for getting a pet, if you forget to buy food for him. You made it sound like buying a fancy new toy and then forgetting the most important accessories. It's a 10+ year commitment to a living being of another species, please read few books about behaving and nutrition, and prepare well before getting one.

If you BOUGHT a dog from a pet store, YDI. If you ADOPTED a dog from a SHELTER (or a store like Petsmart which does work with local humane societies), f your life. I volunteer at HSU and see too many people surrender their dogs because they didn't take it seriously and bought a puppy mill dog at a store or side of a street.

So, those dogs from pet stores don't deserve a home just as much as shelter dogs do? I realize that pet stores have dogs from puppy mills like. almost 100% of the time, but, should we really be discriminating against where the dog was obtained?

it wasn't loosely disguised it was just plain racism. it was also a joke. a racist joke!

My boyfriend has worked at three chain pet supply stores (Petsmart, Superpetz and Petco) and none of these facilities sell dogs/cats. HOWEVER, Superpetz and Petco house shelter animals (usually cats, though) so people coming in can see them, play with them, fill out apps. and be contacted about if they can get an animal. It is not as simple as going to a store and picking one up spir of the moment, unless the OP had done this in advance and was just now picking up the dog. Petsmart, on the other hand, hosts adopt-a-thons, where they bring dogs and cats into the stores for people to adopt. I do not think they adopt on the spot though, there might still be an app. process, but I'm not 100% sure. We adopted our cats from a shelter and had a long app. process (complete with references for them to contact) and acceptance before we could get them. They had been abandoned at just 5 weeks old, and now they're happy, spoiled little brats :) It's likely that the OP either filled out an app. in advance and went to pick up the dog today, or bought it from a pet store with puppy mill dogs. If that's the case, then please do not ever, ever do this again. Please look for local shelters and save an abused, abandoned puppy instead of supporting the mills that ruin their lives.
