I would have waited for it to dry. By then, the water would have been back on and you wouldn't have made the situation worse by rubbing it in to the carpet while it was still wet. Cleaning it up immediately doesn't make much sense unless you just can't stand the smell. With diarrhea, once it's there it's there. Waiting an extra hour or so won't exasperate the problem that much more.

Next time get diarrhea color carpet.
as a last resort, you could have easily used the water in the holding tank of your toilet or if you have access to the hot water tank, you could have gotten water from the relief valve or from the spigot that drains the tank.

You can't really train for diarrhea. They aren't able to hold it.
I thought it was a given that just about everyone has bottled water or even a jug of tap water in the fridge. If not, you could have gone out and bought a gallon for under a dollar :)
